About your spray painting job with Krylon or Rustoleum
What is the right spray painting process?
First, start by removing the loose paint and rusted area, you can use palm sander, a heat gun, a wire brush, or a paint stripper. Clean your substrate with soap and water to remove all the greasy stains. Then leave the object to dry before applying the paint.
Start by asking the spray paint can for approximately 1 min when the mixing ball begins to rattle. If the ball doesn’t rattle contact the manufacturer to order a replacement. It’s also recommended to shake frequently when spraying for a long time.
Hold the can upright 10-16″ from the object and spray back-and-forth motions slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can at the same distance to have a clean finish. You will have a better finish if you do several thin coats as opposed to few thick ones. Wait a few minutes before each coat and apply at least 2 of them. The paint should touch dry in 15min with regular weather conditions and you can handle the object after 30min.
These spray cans should leave an even finish with average quality, you might head to our cordless reviews if you feel like you need a better finish and/or a more durable tool that has a longer lifetime.
After using your spray paint wipe off the tip. You can remove wet paint with White-Spirit or thinner. Though away empty can in the trash and do not burn or compress them.
If the valve is clogged just twist and pull off the spray tip and rinse it in a solvent-based thinner. Do not stick a pin into the stem.
How to achieve a good spray painting finish?
To have an even coverage you should apply the coating in different directions. Changing directions will help your paint getting into all the cavities and crannies and reduces the zebra stipe finish effect.
After use, hold the can upside-down and press the nozzle until no more color comes out. Make sure your remove all the paint from the nozzle, else it will completely or partially clog the spray and affect your spraying pattern.
Make sure the painting area is away from dust. Wet paint tends to attack dust and it will stick and leave an uneven surface finish.
Applying several light coats of paint rather than one or two heavy ones is always a plus. It certainly demands more effort and takes more time but the results are entirely different.
